Top NBA scorer touts libraries

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, and this month Olympic gold medalist and 2008-2009 NBA top scoring player Dwyane Wade wants Americans to know that a library card is the “smartest card” in every wallet.

As Honorary Chair of Library Card Sign-up Month, Wade has donated his time and image to the creation of a public service announcement that will run in national magazines this month. This support is not new for Wade. In 2009, he donated $25,000 through his Wade’s World Foundation to help save the struggling William Leonard Public Library in Robbins, Ill.

Fauquier County Public Library provides a broad range of services for people of all ages and backgrounds, including access to computers and the Internet, assistance with job search resources, and links to tools that help small businesses.

The library also provides items in a variety of formats, such as audio books, CDs, DVDs, e-books and downloadable audio books, the online catalog makes it easy to find and reserve items prior to your visit.

Having a library card also opens the door to a world of reliable information online. Fauquier County Public Library card holders have 24/7 access to encyclopedias and other reference resources and thousands of magazine and newspaper articles .

Other online services featured on the library website include special pages that provide access to library holdings and quick links to online resources on selected topics such as health and legal resources. Others give an easy to follow overview of information for children, teens, parents, and educators.

Getting a library card is easy. Stop at any Fauquier library or complete a short online application. If you have questions, call (540) 422-8500 or visit any of the Fauquier County public libraries.
