Great Books group celebrating 10-year anniversary

This month marks the 10th anniversary of Fauquier County Public Library's Great Books group.

The group, which uses the Socratic “shared inquiry” method of discussion, formed at the Warrenton Library in 2001 and began reading from a set of anthologies provided by the Great Books Foundation. The anthologies contain readings grouped by various themes such as: politics, leadership, justice, happiness, discontent, and living with the past.

Today the Great Books group has nine regular members, some of whom have been with the group since it began. Many more reading and discussion groups have formed at the library since 2001, including the Socrates CafĂ© and Adult Mystery Club in Warrenton, day and evening adult reading groups at the John Marshall Library, The Bealeton Library's Book Club, and the recently formed Friends of Film group in Warrenton.

The Great Books group, like the library’s other reading and discussion groups, always welcomes new members. Call or e-mail Jeanne Day, (540) 422-8505, for more information.
