Library wins awards for job skills programs, Bealeton Depot renovations

The Virginia Public Library Director’s Association recently recognized Fauquier County Public Library's renovated Bealeton Depot as an “Outstanding Library Facility.” In presenting the award during its annual meeting at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, Virginia, the association noted that, “the Bealeton Depot has been returned to its rightful place as a focal point and gathering place for the Fauquier community.” The depot is now used for library programs and as a community meeting room.

The association also recognized the library program, Job Skills Workshop and “Well-Suited” Fashion Show, as an outstanding adult program. The library partnered with the Department of Social Services, the Salvation Army, and Community Touch to present a thrift store fashion show featuring appropriate interview or work outfits for men and women. After the fashion show, participants received a clothing voucher for one interview outfit from the Community Touch or Salvation Army thrift shops. Organizers also handed out information on resources available to job seekers, library Internet classes, and upcoming job interview skills workshops.
