Civil War’s 150th stirs a trove of memories

Fauquier County Public Library is encouraging county residents to participate in the Library of Virginia’s Civil War 150 Legacy Project in March.

Borrowing from the popular PBS series Antique Roadshow, each weekend Virginians are gathering family mementos to share with Library of Virginia representatives. The representatives will photograph or scan artifacts to create digitized copies for the Library of Virginia collection while contributors wait.

Representatives from the Virginia Sesquicentennial Committee will assist the Library of Virginia’s effort to digitize Fauquier residents’ Civil War mementos Friday through Sunday, March 23-25 at Fauquier County Public Library’s John Barton Payne Building, Warrenton.

If you have mementos from the Civil War era you would be willing to share with the Library of Virginia, mark your calendar now to bring them to Warrenton to be copied. Your treasures will remain in your possession, but you will share their stories with the world.
