Celtic band performing at library

Everyone is invited to celebrate Fauquier County Public Library’s return to Sunday hours with the music of the Celtic/Appalachian band AON at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Warrenton Library. The concert is free.

All of the county’s public libraries Sunday hours were cut in July 2010 due to county budget reductions. This summer, the county’s Board of Supervisors reinstated the former Sunday schedule, 1 to 5 p.m., at all Fauquier County Public Library branches.

The return of the library’s Sunday hours was especially welcomed by the many residents who, because of their work schedules and other commitments, can only visit the library on Sundays.

AON, which means number one in Gaelic, presents its vocals and the blended tones of banjo; fiddle; guitar; and the hammered dulcimer, an Appalachian instrument with more than 100 strings, for a unique sound. The group has performed at venues such as Bluemont’s First Night celebrations in Warrenton and Fredericksburg, the Virginia Renaissance Festival at Lake Anna, and numerous pubs, parties, fundraisers, fairs and traditional Irish sessions.

Call (540) 422-8500 for more information about the celebration or library hours and locations.
