Wish Dr. Seuss Happy Birthday and READ

Children and adults alike love Dr. Seuss. From Green Eggs and Ham to Horton Hears a Who, children have laughed, danced and delighted to his imaginative, vibrant characters and engaging, if not slightly wacky, stories.

Celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday with us! On Saturday, March 1, The Fauquier County Public Library and the Fauquier County Education Association will host a special program at all three Fauquier County Public Library locations to wish Dr. Seuss happy birthday.  The program will begin at noon and include a special reading of a Dr. Seuss favorite, crafts, refreshments and other activities. The Cat in the Hat, an iconic Dr. Seuss character, will also be at each library location.

The program is free; no registration is required. Children from throughout Fauquier County are invited to attend and READ at their library.

To get you ready to READ and celebrate, here are a few fun facts about Dr. Seuss

  • Dr. Seuss was the pen name of Theodor Seuss Geisel.
  • Dr. Seuss' works have been adapted for television, film and even Broadway
  • During his lifetime, Dr. Seuss published 46 children's books.
  • Dr. Seuss' works are noted for their use of anapestic meter.
  • In addition to his work as a children's author and cartoonist, Dr. Seuss also worked as an illustrator, political cartoonist and as an animator for the United States Army.

The program is part of National Read Across America Day (READ), started by the National Education Association in 1998 to encourage and motivate children to read.

Happy Birthday Dr.Seuss and happy reading!

How do I love thee....tell us the ways

February. What does it make you think of? Snow? The anomaly of a month with only 28 days? Valentine's Day?

Yep, all of these things come to mind. Here's another distinction that February holds - it's National Love My Library Month!

With hundreds of programs and events for teens, children and adults, a diverse collection of books, CD's, DVD's, eBooks and other resources, it might be hard to point to just one reason why you love the Fauquier County Public library.

To celebrate Love My Library Month, and have some fun as they celebrate their 10-year anniversary at the 11 Willow Drive location, the Bealeton library staff asked patrons to share why they love their library.

Here are just a few of the answers they received:

I Love My Library Because ....
"It's a place where I can escape every day life and relax"
"They have the Harry Potter movies"
"LEGO club!"
"The library is the best place to study"
"I love reading"
"They have my favorite book"
"The ladies at the front desk are nice"
"It is a fun place to take my children"

Wow! Thanks so much to everyone who shared the reason they love the library. And if you haven't, stop by the Bealeton library any time this month and tell us .... Why do you love the Bealeton library?

Tax Assistance Available at the Library

Last year, Americans filed over 144 million individual income tax returns. Some were completed using online software; others with the advice of a tax professional.

Filing your taxes can be daunting and in some instances, downright confusing. Individuals needing help with their 2013 income tax returns can find help through the Fauquier County Public Library. The assistance is provided at no charge, however, it is limited to elderly or low-income residents of Fauquier County.

The program is offered through a partnership with the Foundation for Tax Assistance. Appointments are required. To schedule your appointment, or to learn more call (540) 422-8465.

Federal income tax forms are also available at all Faquier County Public Library locations
