Story Time is Back!

At least at my house, by the end of summer, we are ready to return to our regular (if there is such a thing!) "routine." If you have school-age children at your house, the first step has probably been taken - the new school year has begun.

Even if you have younger children, your visits to the library with them can resume their normal routine as well with the return of story times at all Fauquier County Public Library locations.  Our short story time break is over - and we can't wait to see you and your child, starting Monday, August 25.

We have lots of great books, activities and games planned - so join us! The story time schedule is as follows:

Goodbye to Summer and Hello to Back-to-School at Your Library

Whew, what an amazing summer we have had at the library! Participants in our 2014 summer reading program fizzed, boomed and sparked through over 25,600 books. Clearly these kids love to read - they averaged 17 books per participant! Congrats to each and every child and teen who took part. That's a tremendous accomplishment!

We ended the summer reading program with two grand finale programs. Teens had a great time at a grand finale party on Tuesday, August 5. Many prizes were awarded and Samantha won the teen grand prize - a Google Nexus!

Speaking of prizes, many thanks to the local businesses and organizations who support the summer reading program. Their generosity enables us to offer great programs and fun incentives for reading. The sound of the prize wheel is music to our ears!

Children and families were amazed and inspired at their grand finale on Saturday, August 9 by Lawrence the Magician. Everyone had a great time!

Now it's time to catch our breath and gear up for an exciting and action packed fall. We're busy planning programs - stay tuned for more details soon.

Meanwhile, please note that Story Time is on break Monday, August 11 - Friday, August 22. The regular story time schedule will resume on Monday, August 25. We look forward to seeing you then. Until then, here are some great suggestions for books to read to your child

If your child is heading off to kindergarten (mixed emotions for sure!), stop by any Fauquier County Public Library location on Thursday, August 14 at 10:30 a.m. for our Kindergarten Kickoff program. Rising kindergartners will enjoy games, stories and activities - all geared to getting them ready for kindergarten.

Enjoy the last few days of summer and, as always, happy reading!
