Spread Holiday Cheer: Books Make Great Gifts

The holiday season is in full swing - meaning that for many of us, the mad dash is on - to decorate the house, finalize our holiday travel plans and yes, find just the right gifts for everyone on our list

A few of the names on my list are avid readers and receiving a book is a sure way to spread holiday cheer to them. Even knowing that, I am sometimes not sure what book to choose. Perhaps they read a different genre than I do or I'm not sure, despite the glowing description on the jacket, how good the book really is. My solution? I turn to the holiday gift book suggestions compiled by library staff. These lists provide a wide range of ideas for children, teens and adults. Lists are available at all library locations.

If your holiday generosity extends to organizations within the community, please consider adding the Fauquier County Public Library to your list. Holiday trees at all library locations are adorned with ornaments bearing titles of books the library would like to add to its location. Donation details are on each ornament. Donations can be made in honor of a friend or family member or anonymously. Selections for our children’s, teen and adult collections are included.

If you missed Cyber Monday but still plan to do some of your shopping online, consider using Amazon.com. Amazon donates a portion of your total purchase to the Fauquier County Public Library each time you shop. Just log in then continue to Amazon and place your order for books, movies, electronics or other gifts. There are no additional steps or costs to you. You can even bookmark the page to make return shopping trips to Amazon easy and convenient.

If an eReader is in your stocking, don't forget that the library's collection includes a wide selection of eBooks, audio books and digital magazines - all available free with your library card! We also have handouts available at the reference desk to help navigate your new device.

Happy holidays and happy reading!
