Library Seeks Photos to Honor Veterans

For the third consecutive year, Fauquier County Public Library is seeking photos of area veterans for the “Honoring Our Veterans” display, which will run November 3 – November 28, 2014 at all library locations.

Photos will be collected throughout October and will form a historical collage that is prominently displayed at all three library locations

To include your family's veteran in the display, bring scanned copies of photos to any Fauquier library branch. Library staff is also available to scan original photos upon request.

Each photo will be accompanied by a caption identifying the veteran, the year and location of the photo if available, and the relationship and name of the person submitting the photo. Other interesting facts may be included.

Photos from past displays are available here

The libraries will also display a “white table” to honor American veterans in November. White tables are modeled after the table in the children's book America's White Table, written by Margot Theis Raven and illustrated by Mike Benny, and by the thousands of white tables set up all over the world in memory and honor of American service members fallen, missing, or held captive in the line of duty.

The Fauquier County Public Library’s “Honoring Our Veterans” program is the 2012 recipient of the Outstanding Adult Program award from the Virginia Public Library Directors Association.

It's Library Card Sign-up Month

Every parent wants their child to succeed.

One of the simplest ways you can ensure your child’s academic success is by making a quick trip to the library.

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Fauquier County Public Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most import school supply of all – a free library card.

Resources at all Fauquier County Public Library locations are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement. A wide selection of print and electronic materials, magazines, homework resources and programs for children of all ages are available.

Students can also use their library cards from home. The Fauquier County Public Library offers access to important educational resources, like Literati by Credo Reference, which includes research topics and free homework help and Tumble Books, interactive books for pre-schoolers and early readers. Students also have access to online SAT, ACT and AP test prep, and will enjoy the convenience of access to many other online tools.

Throughout September, individuals will receive a free, gently used book when they sign up for a library card. Library cards are available in four designs: Country Roads, Virginia, the Bealeton Depot and Book-Bot, a fun design for young patrons.
